Senegal Will Pay A Great Tribute To Sadio Mané

Sadio Mané’s success with Senegal at this year’s African Cup of Nations will be remembered forever, as the striker will have a stadium named after him.

It is a great tribute that the country pays to the Liverpool Ace player.

Sadio Mané became the hero of his country after scoring the decisive penalty in the Teranga Lions’ victory over Egypt in a tense final. He was also prolific throughout the tournament in Cameroon, with three goals and two assists.

Mané has quickly become an icon in the West African nation, with their first ever CAN success only further underlining his talismanic status. On Friday 11 February 2022, the mayor of Sédhiou, the 29-year-old’s birthplace, revealed that a new field in the town will be dedicated to the superstar.

Sadio Mané has honoured all of Senegal, the region of Sédhiou and the whole of Casamance,” said Abdoulaye Diop. “I have decided to name the stadium in Sedhiou after him and I want to express the gratitude of all the sons and daughters of the region.

He made Bambali and Sedhiou, the main town of the region, known to all humanity. It is a gift that Sadio Mane really deserves,” explained the mayor. The stadium is now under construction and, according to reports, will open next year.

Senegal’s victory unsurprisingly sparked scenes of celebration across the capital, Dakar, where Mane and his teammates were given a hero’s welcome. The striker returned to Liverpool training, and playfully celebrated his country’s success on camera.
