Delete all temporary files in Firefox

If you are running out of space on your hard drive, deleting the temporary Internet files in Firefox may help you regain some much-needed room. This can be done in just a few steps:

  • Open Firefox – Click Tools and then Clear Recent History from the pulldown menu
  • Select the Time Range from which you want to delete Temporary Internet Files
  • Select the Cached Web Content option and hit Clear Now
  • If you want to keep any of these items, uncheck them from being deleted.

And that’s it! You have just deleted all of your cached data and can now breathe a sigh of relief when you look at that disk space bar filling back up with its empty state once again.

You can also manually delete individual pages or sites if you so choose, but this is typically not necessary for those who use their browser sparingly and mainly for research purposes.

Empty the recycle bin

The first step is usually easy. On a Windows PC, this requires opening the Recycle Bin or clicking in the right-hand corner of the screen and selecting it from the pop-up menu. In macOS, you need to navigate to Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and click on the box next to Applications and select Empty Trash.

If your browser has an option for emptying history, clear that cache as well before closing it. For Google Chrome, this will delete all cookies and remove saved login information so it’s not available if someone uses your browser without permission.

Click the Menu button (three vertical dots) at the top right of the page and then choose Settings > Show Advanced Settings > Privacy > Clear Browsing Data. Firefox can be emptied using Preferences from its Tools menu, while Safari needs to be closed completely before clearing its cache.

Wrap Up

Today we learned how to delete temporary internet files on Firefox. This can be done through the built-in option in Mozilla Firefox or through a third party app such as CCleaner. It’s very important not only for freeing up disk space, but also for protecting your data and staying secure.
